Konkoly Merse – Hungary
I first met Kassai Lajos as a child and he has been a defining part of my life ever since.
My first visit to the Kassai-valley made a huge impression on me, after that not a day went by that I didn’t think about the experiences I had there and that I could become a mounted archer one day. When I entered the valley, I met an extremely dynamic team with great helpfulness. Thanks to this, I improved a lot in a relatively short time. I visited the training sessions several times a week, in the beginning it was not easy to keep up with the advanced mounted archers, but I gradually caught up with them. In 2012, the Master took me and two of my partners to China, which was my first experience abroad. Before that, I had already participated in shows at domestic events, but the more than 3-week eventful trip to China was something completely different.
The continuity was broken by the years I started in college, however, I always tried to spend my free time on horses and with mounted archery.
In 2018, I successfully passed the Master I degree exam, which was an important milestone in my career in all aspects. It was this year that I held my first training camp in the USA and every year after that I traveled abroad for the same purpose.
In the meantime, the WFEA was founded, within which the International Instructors’ Community was created, in which two of us currently occupy a seat. My activity as an Instructor is mostly active in the USA, Canada and of course, home.
I started work on my own property in 2020, during which a mounted archer track according to the WFEA standards was also built. In the meantime, an enthusiastic and eager-to-do equestrian and archery community has been organized, with whom we work on a weekly basis.
On 26.10.2024, the official inauguration of our mounted archery track took place, which was handed over by our Master Lajos Kassai, the founding president of the WFEA. After I had already fulfilled the prerequisites for the “Kán” status before this, we entered the Kassai Equestrian Archery School as Konkoly Kánság on this day.
Currently, in addition to maintaining the estate and my work, I am a student at the Hungarian University of Sports Science at the Department of Equestrian Sports.
My goal, in addition to representing the cultural values of the Kassai School, is to have extensive and up-to-date knowledge in the field of training theory and methodology, thereby promoting the progress of the athletes who work with me.
