Dimitrios Christou – United Kingdom
I was born in Athens, Greece and soon I moved with my family to my village in Thebes. From the early age of 6 I had already expressed my interest and love for archery and our farmhouse helped me developed my connection with nature and animals, especially horses since it was close to a breeding yard. I always wanted to shoot arrows from the back of a horse as my Greek ancestors.
Years later at the age of 20, I got involved with the re-enactment team “Koryvantes” and I started taking part in battle demonstrations as a Greek archer. This activity led me one step closer to my goal as I been introduced to the Hellenic Horseback Archery Team “Greek Centaurs” and my dream came true. I finally started my first steps to this martial art and I was taught the techniques of groundwork and the desensitization of the horse towards the bow and arrows.
I competed in many different styles and disciplines in Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Luxemburg, and UK but by far my favorite was my first visit and competition to the Kassai-valley in 2014. It was an eye-opening moment for me as everything changed. Since then, I realized that the Original Kassai System is the only one who has as a priority the welfare of the horse as the proper training for the horseback archer with aim the continuous improvement. This system has been tested and stayed the same for many decades and the rules are simple and clear to everyone.
In 2016 I moved with my current wife to England to further our knowledge in the equestrian art. Since then, I am teaching horseback archery and horse-riding lessons at Checkendon Equestrian Centre. On the 30th of April 2022, Master Kassai Lajos inaugurated my equestrian archery racecourse and certified me as an International Judge of the Original Kassai System so I could join the Judge’s family. I couldn’t be more honored to be part of the family that I shared the same values:
Honor, Discipline, Elegancy and Respect to the Ancestors.
