Tóth Gergely – Hungary
I have got closer to horses at an early age – thanks to my father, who ran a pony stable and was also the president of the Horse Riding Club of Pápa. I have got the basics here, and then in 2008 I started to deal more seriously with horse riding, and later with show jumping as well.
Horses are like mirror. If we do something right or wrong, they give feedback immediately. I am grateful to the horses with who I was in contact, because I learned a lot from them about myself and the environment where I live.
It was a defining experience when the Hussars of Pápa walked in front of our house together with my father. I was born into this world and was sure that I will be a hussar also. For me, this is not only preserving traditions, but living traditions. That year, a warrior moved next to Pápa: Attila Németh. He was old fashioned, with whom I also started horseback archery. I already had experience with the bow that time, but I started to combine the two things: riding and archery from horseback. For me experience of combativeness is the essence of this world. A few years later the formula started to come together: experience of being a warrior. At a competition or presentation, I don’t just dress up, I also feel the spirit of it. I am active in many civil society organization, but nowhere else I could experience the kind of community that has developed within the framework of the Kassai Equestrian Archery School. Very close friendships could come up at local and national level as well. With the well-constructed system and approach by Master Kassai Lajos, not only horse archers get closer to nature, but also our family members, the horses too. Today, I do not consider box keeping to be a viable solution. In many viewpoints, but the most important is “keep the animals according to their nature”. Horse-centeredness is a keyword that opens a lock in horses. Piroska Péter was the second leader of the horseback archery team of Pápa. My predecessor. A master with infinite humility, from whom I learned a lot, primarily this feature. Sufficient humility is essential for life and learning. I am proud to be a member of a Hungarian martial arts school and a carrier of its values.
